It is snowing heavily outside and apparently we're supposed to get up to a foot of heavy wet snow.  That means we'll lose power.  Welcome to winter.  It seems early, but whatever.  It's not like I didn't know winter is coming.

I've just found a fish CSA!  Gloucester fisherman deliver their catch every other week or so.

Wow.  I have to think about this. 

I am currently:

Boiling beets to peel and refrigerate and eat cold tomorrow.
Frying up turnips and ramps with a potato as our starch.
Frying up a mess of greens: turnips and swiss chard and beet greens, mixed with a few stray pieces of broccoli and asparagus.
Grilling pork chops from a pig named "Sam".

Dinner is almost ready.

Because I am chained to my desk for three months and literally never go to the store, I have set up my life to have deliveries.  It's such a wonderful thing, and so this will serve as my "good things" post for the day.

Part of being a localvore means eating low on the hog sometimes.  This week I've got cabbage and pork sausage on hand.  Neither of these are items I have the slightest experience with, yet both are staples of the time of year after the hog-killing and the cabbage harvest.  Surely there must be some old-fashioned recipe that works?
